Valley Railroad
Chinese Engine 1647




    This tape covers the first season of operation of the Chinese built #1647. Arriving in NJ on December 17 1989 the engine soon found started service with the Valley Railroad. This tape follows that action. From lineside and in the cab we follow 1647 as it is put through its paces. Built by the TanShan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Company as a SY-CLASS steam engine, one of the last built in China.
    With thicker firebox sheeting, modified stay bolts, and X-rayed welded seams the engine meets all U.S. requirements for safety
